Design Description:
MOD is appointed to masterplan and design a modern wineyard hotel on one of the few beautiful vineyard plots in Huailai, North Beijing, approximately 25kms away from the famous Great Wall of China. The 3-level complex included restaurants, wine cellars, exhibition spaces, hotel rooms and a private villa.

The concept took cues from the distinct new grape vine aisles that would dominate the landscape, by using its axis as the geometrical backbone to configure the overarching form of the building. It started off by continuing the vine rows into the building plinth, then extruding the row lines to form ‘fins’ that are infused with intersecting programs. These feature fins generated the baseline for facilities and room modules, orientating and aligning the views from the internal spaces to the axis of the grape vines. The building is then further shaped and terraformed to create a pleasing organic form that ties in seamlessly with the landscape.
